Homemade Christmas Gifts and Kid Craft

Homemade Gifts

Homemade gifts are the best, especially when they are made by the kids and there is one gift that will become well loved thanks to some crafty ideas. Everyone gets kitchen and bathroom towels at some point, and at some time or other one gives those items to people for a variety of reasons. Instead of giving the same Christmas patterned towel sets, again, surprise the relatives with personalized towels and potholders from the kiddos!

Christmas Potholders and Kitchen Towels

Materials:

  • Christmas Cookie Cutters or Stencils
  • Fabric Paint in desired colors
  • A set of Paint Brushes
  • Plain white, preferably smooth, kitchen towel and potholder
  • Fabric Spray Paint (optional)-red, green, silver, or blue
Directions:

  1. Wash the potholder and towel before painting them. Make sure they are completely dry.
  2. If desired, go outside, place the potholder and towel on some new paper and spray paint a Christmas color (this is optional). Let dry over night before painting over.
  3. Use stencils or cookie cutters to paint designs onto the items.
  4. Wait until paint is dry and iron the paint onto the fabric. Do not use steam, and move the iron over the painted fabric constantly to set the paint. Do this for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Prepare for packaging, simply place in a decorative bag or wrap in a box.
Children could also do hand prints on the fabric, and it does not have to spray painted, it can be painted on. If using stencils, use a variety of colors if desired and one can hold it in place with a few pieces of scotch tape. Put something between the towel/potholder and the surface it is on while painting, cardboard works well but so would newspapers or paper bags. Happy Holidays!!!
